Extension of GST compensation yet to be decided: CM Bommai

BENGALURU: Union finance minister NirmalaSitharaman’s statement of extending the GST Cess till 2026 is only limited to paying the pending amounts to states, clarified chief minister BasavarajBommai in the assembly on Thursday.

“The union finance minister statement is limited to only paying the pending GST compensation by 2026. The extension of GST compensation per say is yet to be decided,” said Bommai.

Sitharaman, during a media interaction on Wednesday had told the media that the GST compensation had been extended till 2026 to repay the loans and interest taken by states in lieu of the non-payment of compensation for the year 2020 and reduced compensation in 2021.
